Ideally suited for Phased Array inspection of welds using zonal discrimination and ToFD, the highly flexible platform can be easily adapted to a wide assortment of applications and materials. ToFD Calibration Wizard – It takes just a few minutes to set up a ToFD channel, using the ToFD Calibration Wizard and can be used in conjunction with Phased Array or PE at the same time.

The TD Scan software platform is highly integrated with the class leading Eclipse Scientific ESBeamTool scan planning software. Since our test equipment runs on a Windows® based operating system the user can directly create, modify and import the complex probe settings on our systems without the need for doing this work on a separate PC.

FMC with real-time TFM is included as standard in all versions of the FocusScan RXII.  FMC/TFM provides significant improvement to Ultrasonic resolution by focusing ultrasound across a user defined area in individual pixels of a grid.  Software tools provide an easy mechanism to ensure consistency of amplitude across the area of interest in compliance with inspection standards.

By making a simple menu choice in the Beamset selector, the full power of FMC/TFM is enabled. Users have the choice of Full Matrix, Half Matrix or a customisable capture matrix. User choice is extended in the Total Focus Method controls with choice between Conventional TFM, Plane Wave Imaging and two Virtual Source Imaging techniques (Swept & Linear). PWI and VS imaging demand far less processing resources and are therefore faster than conventional TFM making them more suited to production data acquisition.  Imaging may be visually enhanced with real-time and offline envelope processing control.

An alternative solution to setting up a scan from scratch is to import the probe and scanner settings from a prior scan. This can be either in the form of a dedicated saved setup file or from a past scan files.

StripScan is a software module incorporated into the TD-Scan Software which enables the operator to setup, collect and display data for the zonal discrimination technique. The TD Scan software can easily import ES Beam Tool Zonal settings, saving many hours of setup time, while providing full flexibility to define the various zones and automatically generates the Strip Scan report. Visual accept or reject information can be obtained instantly from the strip chart display. Our systems meet all the requirements for API1104/ ASTM E1961/ BS EN ISO 11666:2010/ DNV-OS-F101 for zonal discrimination.

The StripScan software can automatically optimise the amplitude and gate position of each calibration reflector signal. Delimiters are moved to define the reflector signal, the system then adjusts the gain to 80% FSH and the gate to position the reflector at its centre. With other systems, calibration optimisation is done manually and may take days to achieve. In StripScan, auto optimisation reduces calibration to less than 1 hour.

Our Phased Array Calibration Wizard provides an easy to use graphical way to set probe delays and TCG. This can be applied per focal law, with the results being saved and added to your inspection reports

Phased Array Calibration Wizard -

The TD-Scan software provides convenient Phased Array transduced and wedge databases pre- populated with commonly used transducers and wedges. The databases can be added to or modified and sorted by users through simple interfaces provided within the software. Variables are automatically entered into the probe and focal law generator pages when the user selects the appropriate items. Additional to the ease of use, a further advantage is that users can match custom transducer/wedge combinations at the click of a button

Implemented in both linear and 2D arrays, Probe Skew improves the potential for locating defects that might deflect the return signal away from the normal sound path. This is also useful when locating cracks that are transverse to the weld. This can be performed with conventional pulse echo probes or linear array probes with a physical angle of rotation, or a matrix array with beam steering.

We now support side by side dual linear arrays. Probe separation, Squint Angle and Roof Angle are all settable variables. Parameter setup and calibration is as straightforward as that of a single probe. Dual Linear Arrays are great for testing austenitic stainless steels due to the improved signal to noise ratio.

To ensure positional accuracy of motorised scanners TD-scan provides a ‘PID’ function. The user defined Closed Loop Feedback system may be ‘tuned’ for optimal efficiency in eliminating positional overrun at the end of a scan and ensuring continuous accuracy. The PID also controls the drive energy to provide consistent scanner speed.

TD-Scan is a 32 bit application. 32 Bit Windows® programs have a maximum file size of 2Gb. For users that need to acquire data in excess of this limit, Perpetual Scan addresses the issue by automatically saving data into manageable sized files continuously without the necessity to end the data acquisition process.

TD Super-View® is a powerful, feature-rich and versatile analysis software package which seamlessly integrates with our TD-Scan ultrasonic acquisition software. TD Super-View® is fully customisable, allowing the operator to rearrange data on-screen in many different views with or without weld overlay sketches. Data can be presented in A, B, C, D & Sector scan format in virtually any combination. Data can also be presented from individual channels or indeed as a composite view of several channels. The software is primarily aimed at phased array applications but a combination of ToFD, Phased Array or Pulse Echo can be viewed simultaneously.

This feature allows the user to choose which focal laws to display from a multi focal law data set. Certain organisations or codes may not yet recognise stacked A-Scan views as valid for data evaluation according to an acceptance criteria. It is beneficial however to view the entire data set to gain an overall volumetric impression before limiting the final evaluation to the allowed individual angles.

User defined focal laws

The Rotational scanner tab adapts the data display to accommodate the complexity of determining reflector position when scanning from the bore of a tube.

Usually ultrasonic beams are focussed at a defined point in depth, beam path or projection distance. DDF is a method if extending this point to a focal area. The user simply defines the start and end points of the desired focal field (within the Near–field) expressed either as projection, beam path or true depth.

Dynamic Depth Focussing (DDF)

TD Scan now offers the ability to import user developed complex overlays with our new DXF import function. Once imported the image can be manipulated and may be done either during data acquisition or analysis.

TD Super View now can use Soft Gain during offline analysis and can be modified up to ±60dB by pressing the +/-6dB, +/-1dB, +/- ½dB buttons. The user doesn’t need to re-scan the job to improve the visualisation for analysis and reporting.

Data analysis is included with the TD-Scan software suite and is accessed by simple button selection. Depending on what format the data was acquired in, the appropriate imaging, measurement and manipulation tools are available for selection, e.g. Superview, ToFD, Corrosion Mapping and StripScan (zonal strip charts). The TD-Scan software may be installed on any PC from the installation disk supplied with each system. In its unlicensed state the software acts as a free viewer, able to display any TD data with a limited analysis toolset. With the use of a USB licence key or dongle, the full analysis toolset is available. One Licence key is supplied with every TD acquisition system and additional keys may be purchased individually. The analysis toolset provides effective visualisation, measurement, data manipulation and reporting capability. Ultimately TD-Scan’s analysis tools enable the user to make decisions and produce detailed reports manually, semi and fully automatically at any location.

Offline Analysis - Data analysis is included with the TD-Scan software suite and is accessed by simple button selection.

Remote Assist/ Internet Accessible – All of our systems are based on a Windows operating systems. Each of our systems has the same basic PC functionality you might see in a laptop, therefore they can be networked and accessed via the internet. This capability allows the user the flexibility to install drivers from the internet, as well as allowing TD staff to remotely access the system for troubleshooting. Customers also have the ability to calibrate our systems by having our factory team remotely run the calibration routines, saving you considerable time and cost associated with shipping. Call us to enquire if this capability is available in your region.
